What a strange year it is!
Come visit anytime—-there are plenty of alewives leaping pool to pool as they ascend the fish ladder to spawn in Damariscotta Lake. It’s a strange year because the fish are coming in slowly, school after school, but not yet in the vast numbers that are typical for this time in the run. In most years, the run begins slowly but after a couple of weeks the bay is full of fish (and there is often a football field size mass of flipping alewives ready to pass through the RR trestle in the late evening) that there are solid fish from the bay into and throughout the fish ladder. We’re hoping that today and tomorrow, with 80 degree temps and sunshine, will spur the fish on so that they pass in these huge numbers but….we’ll see. Stop by and see what you think!
