And now there are fish…
A huge school of alewives came in last evening and this morning! It’s truly a confusing year——the run was very slow during the month of May and, right toward the end of the month, blueback herring came in and spawned in the entry pools of the fish ladder and along the riprap between the check office and the dippers. The weather is now perfect for alewives—-sunny and warm enough to stimulate the urge to spawn but not so hot that the fish turn back (And their eggs get re-absorbed) before ascending the fish ladder. Stand by, we might just have a good run of alewives after all!
