Due to a strong showing of blueback herring (check out the eggs covering the bottom of the lower fish ladder) and fewer than normal alewives, the harvest is over for the year. There just aren’t enough fish of either variety to harvest.
Unless there is a set back, we expect to begin harvesting on Monday, May 18 at 5am.
The 2026 harvest will begin as soon as the big schools of alewives are in and the fish are getting into the lake to spawn. The harvest will take place Monday through Friday at 5am and again at 3pm. For more information, call fish agent and harvester Mark Becker at 207-380-7996.
There will not be harvesting this morning or this afternoon today—Friday, May 23—due to a lack of alewives. Cold temperatures and stormy weather have slowed the run nearly to a stop— look for lots and lots of fish to come in once the weather improves!!! Next harvest — Monday, May 26 at 5am.

We’ve had many cool (cold) nights this spring and many cool, damp days. These conditions are not conducive to large number of alewives streaming into the fish ladder. Harvesting will begin when the big schools of fish come arrive—-any day now!
