A strange year for alewives
It’s Memorial Day weekend and most years alewives have been moving up the fish ladder for weeks by this time. This year is different, due to cold temperatures and endless rain. Alewives have come in and have been counted entering Damariscotta Lake to spawn….but not many of them. There are schools of alewives in Great Salt Bay waiting for the warmth….maybe today is the day they’ll all come in at once. The sun is shining….come for a visit and let’s see if it’s the day the big schools of alewives come in!!!
